About the Lake

Lake Tillery is a 5,000 acre lake with 104 miles of shoreline located between Badin Lake and Blewett Falls Lake and bordered by Stanly County on the west side including the towns of Albemarle and Norwood. Montgomery County is the border on the east side including the towns of Mt. Gilead and Troy. The Lake Tillery Dam is 2800 feet long and 86 feet high with four generators capable of producing 87 megawatts of electricity.

The lake has an abundance of recreational things to do including a swimming area, public beaches, boating, water sports, picnic areas, and fishing – and much more! Numerous, beautiful lake front housing communities complete with private docks provide residents with year-round enjoyment of this popular destination.
State Parks & Forests

State Parks & Forests

The lake at the northern tip is surrounded by  the Uwharrie National Forest and the Morrow Mountain State Park. Morrow Mountain State Park offers a wide variety of trails for both novice and experienced hikers with a half hour short loop trail for a leisurely stroll or spend the day hiking some of the park’s longer and more challenging trails.

Restaurants and Marinas

Lake Tillery offers several water-front restaurants and marinas including  Cook’s Marine Services which is Lake Tillery’s marine mechanic and shrinkwrap specialists and Lilly’s Bridge Marina who offers boat rental and boat storage. Lilly’s Bridge Marina recently opened their new restaurant, River Wild and they have fun events going on each month.

Fishermen will find a variety of fish including bluegill, channel catfish, white bass, flathead catfish, striped bass, blue catfish, crappie, yellow perch and large mouth bass here. Because of the surrounding rivers Lake Tillery is unique for the fact that the water level changes are measured in inches and fluctuates very minimally.
